1.  Training Philosophy

Training for National Bank is a planned, proactive and ongoing process aimed at developing human assets for organisational excellence. It seeks to facilitate individual's growth by developing competence and orientations appropriate for rural development. It strives to achieve corporate objectives of promoting sustainable agriculture and rural development, strengthening capacity building of client institutions and encompasses research and consultancy in related areas.

2. Capacity building of NABARD staff

Sustainable efforts are made to upgrade the skills of officers by deputing them for training to National Bank Staff College (NBSC).and staff through National Bank Training Centre (NBTC) at Lucknow and Zonal Training Centre (ZTC) at Hyderabad. Officers are also deptuted for attending training programmes in India and abroad.

3. Staff Incentive and other Promotional Schemes

  • Incentive Scheme for acquiring professional qualification - HRDD has a staff incentive scheme to encourage staff to pursue courses through distance learning in areas of relevance to NABARD.

  • Study Leave Scheme is being provided with the opportunity to pursue courses in India and abroad on the subjects relevant to the functioning of the Bank.

  • Under the Sabbatical Scheme officers pursue research or work on projects in reputed institutes viz. IIT/ IIMs/ NGOs, etc.

  • With a view to tapping the innovative ideas suggestions of mutual benefit to staff and organisation are invited from staff members.

4.  Capacity Building of Rural Financial Institutions (RFIs)

The objective of NABARD's support to RFIs (Cooperative banks, regional rural banks, NGOs, voluntary agencies etc.) is to provide necessary skill to the personnel of RFIs and other agencies engaged in rural development for uninterrupted flow of rural credit for development of the area. NABARD has created the following Training Establishments to meet the training requirement of staff of client institutions:

NABARD is extending funding support under Scheme of Financial Assistance for Training of Coperative Bank’s Personnel (SOFTCOB) to the ACSTIs of SCBs,JLTCs of SCARDBs and Integrated Training Insitutions (ITIs) viz.RICEM-Jaipur,APCOB-Hyderabad,MDMI-Shillong with the objective of improving the quality of training to be imparted by the above Cooperative Training Institutes and increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the training system for the CCS as a whole.


Further,under the establishment of Centre for Professional excellence in Cooperatives in BIRD,Lucknow,the Cooperative Training Institues(ACSTIs)that obtain C-PEC Accreditation are eligible for additional assistance from NABARD under SOFTCOB.


NABARD is providing financial assistance for training programmes conducted for RRBs/Coop.banks/NGOs to National Institute of Rural Banking (NIRB) Bangalore Indian Institution Bank Management (IIBM), Guwahati.


5.  Summer Placement Scheme

  • The Summer Internship Programme of NABARD provides access and opportunity to students for studying areas of core competence of NABARD i.e. rural development, multi-disciplinary projects, rural banking, institutional development etc.

The objective of the Scheme is to assign tasks/projects useful and relevant to NABARD’s vision and mission statements, to talented students with good academic background.
