State Cooperative Banks (SCBs)

 

Share Capital

 
The aggregate paid up share capital of SCBs increased to Rs. 1135 crore as on 31 March 2006 from Rs.1023 crore as on 31 March 2005.
   
Out of the 31 SCBs, 6 SCBs are not complying with the provisions of section 11 (1) of Banking Regulation Act 1949(AACS) as on 31 March 2006.
 
Deposits
 
Deposits of SCBs increased to Rs.45403 crore as on 31 March 2006 from Rs. 44331 crore as on 31 March 2005 registering a growth rate of 2% over the previous year.
 
Credit Outreach
 
The aggregate loans issued by SCBs increased to Rs.48260 crore during 2005-06 from Rs.46234 crore registering a growth rate of 4% over the previous year.
 
Total loans outstanding of SCBs increased to Rs.39817 crore as on 31 March 2006 from Rs.37361 crore registering a growth rate of 7% over the previous year.
 
Recovery Performance
 
The percentage of loan recovery of SCBs increased to 87 during the year 2005-06 as compared to 86 in the previous year
 
Costs and Margins
 
The average return on funds (all India average) as percentage to working capital stood at 7.10%
   
Average cost of funds stood at 4.60%.
   
Transaction cost increased to 1.49% from 1.32% during previous year.
   
Average financial margin was 2.50%.
   
SCBs as a group earned a net margin of 0.63%.
   
As compared to a net margin of 0.46% during the previous year, 4 SCBs in the states viz. Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura had a negative net margin.
 
Profitability
 
SCBs posted net profit of Rs.408.42 crore during 2005-06 as against Rs.350.80 crore in 2004-05.
   
4 SCBs reported loss amounting to Rs.29.85 crore.
 

Non-Performing Assets (NPAs)

 
SCBs reported NPAs at 15.97% of their total loans and advances outstanding as on 31 March 2006 as compared to 16.27% as on 31 March 2005.
   
Amount of aggregate NPAs are reported at Rs.6360.39 crore during 2005-06 as against Rs.6077.91 crore during 2004-05.
 

Accumulated losses

 
The accumulated losses of SCBs as a group declined to Rs 274 crore as on 31 March 2006 from Rs. 305 crore as on 31 March 2005.
 
Management of Cooperatives by Elected Boards
 
Elected Boards of Management in 12 SCBs stood superseded as on 31 March 2006.
