| With a view to facilitating adoption of new and innovative technologies by farmers and thereby increasing their farm productivity and income, NABARD introduced the Capacity Building for Adoption of Technology (CAT) Scheme in December 2004. Under the Scheme, farmers preferably marginal, small and tribal, are taken on exposure cum training visits to innovative agri and allied projects that have employed proven technologies developed by research institutes, corporate houses, NGOs and progressive farmers/entrepreneurs. The entire cost towards such visits/programmes is being supported by NABARD out of Rural Innovation Fund.
In view of the distress situation being faced by farmers in some parts of the country, capacity building of the farmers through such exposure visits has become all the more relevant and necessary. During the year, 23 exposure visits were facilitated by 9 ROs, covering 580 farmers up to December 2006 on bio globules, vermiculture, bio manures, organic farming, poly house, medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation, etc., in collaboration with some select research institutes, KVKs, and Agriculture Universities. |
