Salt Water Exclusion Dam across Seeta River in NeelavaraVillage in Udupi
Taluk - Udupi district of Karnataka

Salt water exclusion dam at Neelavara in Udupi Taluk was sanctioned under RIDF VI. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 249.00 lakh and total cost of the project on completion is Rs. 333.98 lakh. The work was commenced on 11 November 1999 and completed on 29 May 2002.

Salt water exclusion dam was constructed across Seeta River for preventing the entry of salt water into sweet water and also to provide benefit for about 860 acres of land.

After the completion of the project, the farmers of the ayacut are draining the water through pump sets all along the banks of the river at various places. Total ayacut benefitted is 840 acres. Farmers mainly grow sugarcane, coconut, vanilla, cereals and other crops. Apart from the above benefit, the ground water levels in the area have been improved to a large extent. Hence, drinking water problems have also been taken care of. The fertility of the land has been increased considerably due to non entry of salt water.

There is also a lot of scope for adventures in the river course which runs more than 5000 mts. up streams of dam site. The District Administration is encouraging to promote water sports in the area.
