Best Practices

 
Best Practices in SHG - Bank Linkage Programme
 

To commemorate the International Year of micro Credit - 2005, it has been decided to compile and publish a booklet on Best Practices adopted by bankers, training establishments, NGOs, government agencies, any other partners and SHGs themselves under the SHG - Bank Linkage Programme facilitated by NABARD.

2. We propose to compile about 100 best practices from various parts of the country, in a book form titled "Best Practices in SHG - Bank Linkage Programme" in Hindi and English, by June 2005. We particularly look forward to receiving the write-up on best practices describing the following :

  1. Reasons for adopting a new practice? [ in other words what prompted them to go in for change]
  2. How they went about it? [Process]
  3. Description of specific tangible and intangible benefits accrued therefrom
  4. Tips for replicating their success.
3. Best Practices may be related to any stage of SHG - Bank Linkage Programme and may fall in any of the following categories.

The above list is only indicative. Any practice followed in the field however small, but directly affecting the growth of the programme can be an inspiring story.

4. Contributions can be made by any field level microfinance practitioner directly in touch with the SHG - Bank Linkage Programme like bankers, NGOs, Government Agencies, Training Establishments, Individual Rural Volunteers, Book Writers, and NABARD staff.

5. Terms and Conditions for information of contributors:

  1. Write - ups on best practices will be selected on the basis of their importance and direct impact on the SHG - Bank Linkage Programme.
  2. All material received will be placed before a screening committee constituted at NABARD Head Office for approval and editing if necessary.
  3. Only those write - ups approved by screening committee will be printed.
  4. Contributors of write - ups should be prepared to answer queries raised by the screening committee.
  5. All contributors except NABARD staff will be monetarily compensated.
  6. All write - ups accepted by the screening committee along with photographs will be compensated @ Rs. 2,500 per write up while those write - ups not accompanied with photographs or in those cases where photographs are not accepted the compensation will be RS.2,000 per write - up.
  7. All write - ups and photographs accepted by NABARD will be deemed as the property of NABARD and shall not be returned to the contributor. All other material will be returned.
  8. Contributors of write - ups accepted by the screening committee will be acknowledged suitably.

6. Specifications for write - ups :

  1. The write - ups should be neatly typed in English. Write ups in other languages may be accompanied with an English translation on A4 size paper
  2. The write up should not exceed 2,000 words.
  3. Contributors should also be prepared to send the soft copies of the write - ups on floppy or by e-mail at nabmcid@vsnl.com with title "Booklet on Best Practices in SHG - Bank Linkage Programme along" with the hard copies.
  4. All write - ups should be accompanied with full details of the author like name, designation, organisation associated with, complete postal address, all / alternative contact phone numbers, fax numbers and e-mail ids if any.
  5. Write - ups accompanied with photographs will be appreciated. Clear and good quality photographs in size 4 x 6 (inches) should be accompanied with negative.
  6. Care should be taken to ensure that photographs show only SHG members / activity depicting the story or bearing direct relevance to the write up.
