Role of Rural financial institutions in rural development- credit delivery- present problems- characteristics of rural credit needs - small, frequent, timely, thin distinction between production and consumption, gender sensitive, vulnerable to exploitative rate of interest, forced sale of assets and produce, high transaction cost-

How SHG -linkage programme was introduced ?

What is SHG ? Formation, monitoring and nurturing of SHGs. Sustainability of thrift and credit SHGs over other groups, features of good SHGs- homogeneity, regularity in savings, meetings, democratic character

  1. Maintenance of books of accounts.

Group processes

  1. Group configuration - grouping norms, membership, leadership

  2. Group process- framing rules/bye-laws, conduct of meetings, self governance, group control, conflict resolution

  3. Group functions- thrift management, loan management, accounts keeping

Formats of Books of Accounts and Monitoring Reports. Community issues. Training needs assessment of members, imparting training

Linking of SHGs with banks

RBI/NABARD guidelines on linkage of SHGs. Financing of SHGs by banks, rate of interest, quantum of loans, rating of SHGs/NGOs

To build up capacities of NGOs to manage promotion and consolidation of SHG Programme.

CEOs of NGO SHPI for small and upcoming NGOs [including new entrants] and other interested ones to take up SHGs as a regular or add-on activity
