Environmental Promotional Assistance - New Initiative
NABARD has sanctioned a project to be implemented by Bharathiya Vikas Trust, Manipal (Karnataka State) for conduct of 100 User Programs for PROPAGATION OF SOLAR ENERGY IN RURAL AREAS of four districts - Dakshin Kannada, Udupi, Shimoga and Dharwad of KARNATAKA State. The programme covers 100 potential users per programme @ 25 programmes in each district. Bharathiya Vikas Trust, Manipal has tied up with the equipment manufactures of the Solar Technology System for providing Technical Guidance free of cost and also financial tie up with local banks to acquire the equipment at a down payment of 15% of the cost.
Expected results of this intervention :-
2000 rural families adopts solar technology.
An additional 80000 wp of solar power will be deployed (average panel size of 40 wp)
Investment of Rs.4.00 crore will result taking into account the cost of per unit at Rs.20,000/-.
Presuming that 75% of the beneficiaries purchase the system on bank credit, it will result in Rs.3.00 crore of credit disbursement in rural areas.
Use of kerosene in rural areas has proved a health hazard to women and children, and polluting the air. This programme is expected to replace 6000 kerosene lamps with solar lights which will result in better vision for the children, longer hours of study, able to cook without inhaling toxic fumes in better health, extended working hours due to better lighting enabling better productivity and better incomes.
