Success Story of SUDHA

 

The Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Society Ltd - "Co-optex"

 
Financial assistance was extended to Co-Optex under SUDHA scheme. The Project Completion Report submitted by " Co-optex" enumerates the success it achieved for Weavers community.
Benefits accrued to the weavers by introduction of New design and colour.

About 1500 weavers identified in Erode, Madurai, Thanjavur and Coimbatore districts to adopt 50 new NID designs for weaving which provided uninterrupted continuous employment for a period of two years.

 
  • NID, Bangalore has supplied 50 designs each of 5 colourways in products like Sarees, Bed linen set and table Linen resulted in 250 options.
  • Designs were effectively released to weavers in different locations for production according to the market demand ( 20 Saree Designs were issued in Coimbatore , Madurai , and Thanjavur while 15 designs each for bedsheets and Table set in Erode.
  • Modifications had been carried out in 133 looms to produce sarees and home textiles with NID designs which resulted in increase in production of new design sarees.
  • Cooptex supported exposition of the NID design based products and also printed colour brochures on NID design based products. During these special exhibitions Co-optex had effected Rs.50.00 lakh sales.
  • The scheme acted as a pilot scheme to develop goodwill in the up country market and the brand name of Cooptex has been retained in the competitive market among the customers.
  • With the introduction of new design/ colour products, the retails sales of Cooptex has increased. It is also providing continuous employment to weavers.
