Minor Irrigation Project ‘NATHARA’ in Udaipur district of Rajasthan

The Minor Irrigation project was sanctioned under Tranche VII of RIDF with Culturable Command Area of 69 ha. The irrigation projects provided assured irrigation facility to 62 ha area. The assured irrigation has led to shift from traditional rainfed crops to high value crops such as cotton, carrot, onion and vegetables. The area under commercial crops viz., turmeric, ginger, tamramira, rapeseed, mustard, sesame, chilli, cauliflower and brinjal has increased substantially. The cropping intensity has increased from 120% to 160%. The incremental income per hectare has increased from Rs.10,332 to Rs.17,808. Additional employment opportunities were also generated in the post development period.

The availability of drinking water to livestock has increased in the command area. The percolation of water has increased the wells water level from 15 to 40 feet on both sides of storage and total number of wells has increased in the command area. Availability of green fodder has increased milk production in the area. Milk collection centers have come up in the area and farmers are getting remunerative price as compared to pre development situation.

In addition, several intangible benefits such as filling up the infrastructure gaps, providing impetus for off-take of rural credit, increasing supply of inputs to the rural area, marketing of rural farm and non-farm produce, improvement in ground water level, increase in literacy level, etc., have accrued on completion of these projects.
