Bridge projects in Madhya Pradesh

Kharpadiya Bridge is a high level bridge constructed across Kharpadiya nalla on Tirodi Khawasa road. Tirodi Khawasa road is 45 kms long and it's also an ODR in Katangi block of Balaghat district. The project is located at a distance of 67 kms from the district head quarters. The length of the bridge is 80.108 m. Tirodi road connects the two districts of Seoni and Balaghat. The road also provides a direct link to NH-7 which connects states of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

NABARD sanctioned a loan of Rs. 67.50 lakh under RIDF - VI against outlay of Rs. 74.43 lakh to the Government of Madhya Pradesh. The construction work started on 5th January 2001 and completed on 15th July 2002, well within the time schedule.

The bridge has helped in shortening the distance between Tirodi and Khawasa villages which are situated on either side of the bridge by about 25 kms. Prior to construction of the bridge a damaged rapta was in place. This rapta was of little use during rainy season as it used to lay submerged in water. This used to cause bottleneck to the traffic and vehicles could not ply on this road and the vehicles used to take circuitous road from village Tirodi to Khawasa covering a distance of about 70 kms. With the completion of the bridge, the distance has been reduced to 45 kms. This has, in turn, resulted in saving of fuel and maintenance costs and time. With the construction of the bridge the traffic bottle neck has become a thing of the past. There is smooth flow of traffic throughout the year on this road without any hindrance.

The local population has immensely benefited from the project. They now have easy access to markets, hospitals, educational institutions and business establishments. The completion of the project has provided easy connectivity to 64 villages situated around the project area. The farmers living in the nearby localities are now able to choose any of the 8 marketing centres to sell their farm produce. This has helped the farmers to sell their produce at a better price. The completion of bridge has also given a choice to the villagers to send their wards to the educational institutions of their choice as there are around 70 educational institutions situated in the area. The school drop out rate has also come down after the construction of the bridge as it has provided better connectivity. Villagers are no more reluctant to send their female children to the schools.

The villagers have easy access to 5 hospitals/dispensaries after construction of the bridge. The bridge has also provided easy connectivity to 4 Railway/Bus Stations. Now farm products are easily transported through the Tirodi Khawasa road to neighboring states like Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. During implementation stage the bridge project provided non-recurring employment to the tune of 22.5 lakh mandays. The local population was delighted at the bridge project in every respect.
