Maha Guv flags off NABARD sponsored rural crafts fair
Mumbai, 17 January: Maharashtra Governor Shri C Vidyasagar Rao today inaugurated National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)-sponsored rural crafts fair - Mahalaxmi SARAS Mela - at MMDRA Ground, Bandra-Kurla Complex here.
In association with NABARD among other stakeholders, the state government has organised the 13-day affair to provide a platform for rural artisans and enterprises, SHGs to exhibit and sell handicraft and handloom manufactured by them.
NABARD, which has been supporting the state-level annual event for more than a decade in a bid to bridge the gap persisting in marketing of rural crafts, has set up 50 stalls this year for artisans and SHGs from across the country.
In addition to offering them a prospect to showcase their creativity and creations, the annual occasion would expose the rural artisans to the city markets, help them redesign and sell their products in conformity with the latest trend.
The inaugural function saw the presence of Deputy Managing Director of NABARD Shri R Amalorpavanathan, Rural Development Minister Smt. Pankaja Munde, Rural Development Minister (State) Shri Dadaji Bhuse, MLA Trupti Sawant among others.
