THE CHALLENGE

• High rate of environmental degradation, resulting in low productivity and low income
• Broad disconnect between tribals and the mainstream population
• Urban migration due to uncertain rainfall, food scarcity and lack of basic amenities

THE SOLUTION

• NABARD extended assistance to VIKASANA for an integrated tribal development project
• Introduction to Wadi development and other incomegeneration activities
• Support given for organic cultivation, exposure programmes and marketing of produce

THE IMPACT

• 409 Wadis planted with fruit crops and forestry plants by as many tribal families
• 16 women SHGs 49 village planning committeesand 2 cluster-level committees formed to support them
• Carpentry, tailoring and petty shops provide alternate sources of income
