Professional Experience:
Shri R. Gandhi has been serving as Deputy Governor at the Reserve Bank of India since 2014. He was an Executive Director of RBI between 2011 and 2014, prior to his elevation. He has served as a Director with other leading banks, such as Central Bank of India (2002-2004) and Punjab and Sind Bank (2008-2009). Shri Gandhi has also served as a Director with the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), Hyderabad.
Shri Gandhi joined the RBI in 1980. Over a period of three decades, he has gained experience in diverse fields, including payment systems and information technology, financial markets (money, securities, forex and capital market) operations and regulation, currency operations and management, personnel and human resources management, industrial credit and international banking.
Achievements/Major Contributions:
One of the biggest achievements of Shri Gandhi has been the implementation of Real-time Gross Settlement System (RTGS), an online funds transfer system. The system facilitates quick transactions, thereby saving a lot of time for businesses, which earlier had to wait for days for settlements.
