13.1.2 Recommendations
We find that the SHG members trust one another and feel a sense of ownership to the
SHG. However they are not willing to be involved financially in their peers business.
One main reason for the same could be because there are no financial products offered to
them with limited liability. In order that members work together and do joint business it
is necessary for them to realise the amount of liability they will face in the joint business.
They also need higher level training in accounts for the same.
Also the NGOs need to get involved and help in setting up of hubs of economic activity
and in its marketing too. This initiative will go a long way in developing the area and its
core competence. It will also generate employment to others in the village.
13.2 Extent of Voluntary Savings
13.2.1 Findings
We find that most SHG groups do like the voluntary savings and members use the same
through internal loans for their child’s education, marriage/function or for household
expenditure, like house repair. Over the years they see the benefit of savings and some
have the power to save more. However they feel that unequal savings could lead to
inequality among members. Hence to them the present “equal amount per person”
savings must continue.
Member’s income is not very high; however their family income is relatively high. This
shows that they have the potential to save if needed. However they feel that there are
hardly any products offered by the NGO as a savings product.
