Insurance products
The LIC term product with minimum premium is very popular among the
members. This is because the product is seen as a savings product than an
insurance product. Members must be made to understand their vulnerability with
insurance. As an immediate measure they need both medical as well as life
insurance. If we do not introduce the same early on, there is a tendency among
members not to realise the risk they are exposed to. There are cases of members’
families falling into penury because of lack of insurance coverage. Later other
insurance products like weather insurance and rainfall insurance must be
introduced to them.
Creation of economic hubs
Many members take on the same business of their peer and often there is an
oversupply of the same in the local market. Many NGOs have created economic
hubs to leverage on the core competence of the community. This also generates
local employment. As entrepreneurship is forced among members, it will be good
if the NGO gets more involved in the development of the village as the case in
Krishnagiri and Dhrmapuri.
