After the formation of NABARD on July 12, 1982, the need for robust IT Infrastructure and Services was acknowledged
by the formation of Computer Services Division (CSD). Formerly a part of the Economic Analysis and Publication
Division, it was renamed as Department of Information Technology (DIT) in 1998, to devote exclusive attention to
IT-related activities of the Bank and effectively channelise Information, Communication and Technology (ICT).
Objectives
The modernisation of IT systems, networks, and platforms is imperative for the organisation to remain relevant and
develop effective and efficient solutions. The key objective of the Department is to provide such robust, secure and
agile IT systems and services to the Bank in consonance with the latest available technology, with a view to improve
operational efficiency and business productivity and also dissemination of real time data for decision making.
Core functions
IT Governance
IT Governance structure consists of IT Strategy Committee of the Board (ITSCB), IT Steering Committee (ITSC), Head of
IT Function, and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Besides, there is an IT Advisory Committee (ITAC) which
comprises of a Whole Time Director (WTD), Senior Officers of NABARD and experts from the academic field, software
industry and IT Research Institutions. It advises the Bank on hardware, software, cyber security and other related
matters. The IT Strategy Committee of the Board consists of select members of the Board and IT experts. It examines
the advice given by the ITSC and approves/ recommends proposals for introduction of software, hardware, IT
platforms, cyber security systems, etc. CGM, DIT has been nominated as Head of IT Functions.
The Department’s primary goals of IT Governance is to ensure that the investments in IT generate business value, and
to mitigate the risks that are associated with Information Technology. This is being done by implementing an
organizational structure with well-defined roles for the responsibility of information, business processes,
applications and infrastructure.
Design IT and IT-related policies for the Bank
The Department is responsible for the formulation of IT policies relating to procurement of hardware and software
within the Bank. These policies guide the Bank in its digital journey, duly reckoning the applicable statutory/
regulatory guidelines and a well-defined process is in place to mitigate associated risks.
Provision, augmentation and replacement of IT infrastructure on regular basis
The Department oversees the installation and maintenance of computer network systems within the Bank. All
server-level hardware and software are maintained by DIT whereby ensuring round-the-clock availability to all users
of Bank.
Anchor implementation and maintenance of Enterprise level Applications
DIT oversees the implementation and maintenance of Enterprise-level Applications that serve the business, development, and administrative needs of the Bank by engaging best-in-class technology service providers. The Bank also has a corporate intranet developed in-house.
Improve secure mobile and remote access to appropriate Department resources
Mobility and secure remote access to systems has gained momentum in recent times. Moving towards a paperless
organisation and adoption of cloud-based collaborative tools are some of the important steps in this direction.

NABARD is also an ISO 27001: 2022 certified organisation showing it’s commitment towards safeguarding sensitive information, mitigating security risks, ensuring compliance, and building trust with customers and stakeholders through improved internal controls, greater alignment of information security strategies with business goals, and more effective operational processes.
