In both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka the top reason to take an internal loan was for
household expenditure as can be seen from Table 6.7 and 6.8. This was followed by
educational purposes or to buy gold in Tamil Nadu. In Karnataka too gold buying was
given priority along with expenses for functions or a pooja.
