Chapter 8 –Occupation, Savings and Livelihood activity
8.1
Introduction
In this chapter we capture the benefits of voluntary savings. There could be several uses
of the same. Many groups may continue with the basic minimum while others could
have increased the amount. To explore the same we first try to understand the link
between savings and their livelihood activity and finally try to understand if savings is
used to take care of their lifecycle needs. Hence, in this chapter we examine the research
question: “What is the extent of voluntary savings in the group with members involved in
livelihood activity? Are voluntary savings purpose oriented and linked to lifecycle
needs?” (TOR 3)
