Number of Members
It is very important to know from the sample how many of the women are part of just one
SHG or are they part of multiple groups. This helps us understand their credit needs. We
can also say that if there are substantial members subscribing to other groups then the
present SHG does not sufficiently meet their credit needs. Table 5.4 and 5.5 help in the
understanding of how many members subscribe to beyond their SHG. It shows that very
few members do actively take part in other SHG or MFI groups. To be specific, 21 out of
575 members were active in Tamil Nadu in another MFI organization while 20 out of 300
members were active in Karnataka in another MFI organization. However, only 5
members in Tamil Nadu and 20 members in Karnataka were active in 2 or more groups.
One reason why members were not active in other MFIs could be that they were satisfied
with the present SHG or they did not get time to take part in more such groups.
