Education level of SHG Members
The level of education of the women SHG member does matter in many ways. Education
contributes towards her understanding of what business to take up, how to go about the
business activity and to sustain the same. Often members are also trained before credit is
disbursed to them. It hence makes logical reason to examine the educational level of
these members. All the members are married and are women. A cursory look at table 5.6
and 5.7 shows that about 50% of the women in Tamil Nadu have “higher secondary”
education and about the same percent has “secondary” education in Karnataka.
Karnataka members have a greater percentage of professionals as compared to Tamil
Nadu. We do believe that a basic education contributes to a better understanding of
business which we will test later.
