Skilling India: An Aspirational Challenge
115
As per the sector-wise studies done by
NSDC, employment opportunities in India
would increase from461.1million in 2013 to
581.9 million in 2022, across the 24 growth
sectors, pointing at an incremental human
resource requirement of approximately 120
million (Figure 6.1). Considering the overlap
in the human resource requirement across a
number of sectors, the unique number for
incremental demand is estimated to be 109.7
million by 2022.

Whether it be skilled work-
ers for an increasingly automated manufac-
turing sector or entry-level white collar jobs
for the services sector, substantial gaps in
human resources hold back the transforma-
tion of India from an agrarian and informal
services-based economy to one focused on
manufacturing and value-added services.
